Aloha e,

What’s in a name? It was standard practice for immigrants from China and their children to be given an English name. AQ’s daughter, Gail Long, remembers kid time activities with her mother and how she learned about AQ’s name change:

2025 promises to be a year of big challenges to democracy, the rule of law, and social

justice. It is more important than ever to widely share the documentary and the AQ

Labor History website (www.laborhistoryhawaii.org), Everyone should learn the history

of how AQ and the labor movement overcame oppression by an almost feudal

oligarchy.

For those who missed the TV premiere of Ah Quon McElrath: The Struggle Never Ends! or want to watch it again, on PBS Hawaiʻi Presents. If you are outside Hawaiʻi us PBS Hawaiʻi YouTube page.

We will continue to post short excerpts from our extensive archival collection on our website each month.
