This is Part 3 of an interview with Ah Quon on union organizing. Part 1 told the story of labor organizing coming to Hawaiʻi and the role played by merchant seaman in spreading the word. Part 2 recounted the ILWU strategy to overcome management’s divide and conquer ploy that used segregation by race and ethnicity to separate workers. In Part 3 she observed the draconian conditions imposed by Martial Law and how sugar workers saw the union as a way to combat inequality!

We recently received the good news that the National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) has agreed to distribute the documentary to PBS stations nationally. There will be an important role for those who enjoy the documentary on the Continent. As we get information we will send you specifics about how your local PBS station can download and broadcast the program.
